Our Roots

 ECAN RMS USA, doing business as The Orchid Lei Company, had its humble start in 1992 when founders Suppawit and Narpansanan (Bua) decided to pursue their passion for orchids. All they had were just a few pots and big dreams. The couple gathered support from family and friends and began to explore their market possibilities. Within the first two years, the company exported to Japan, Europe, and the United Arab Emirates adapting their offerings for each market. 1996, however, brought about challenges in expansion when not only weather and political instability, but drought and irrigation impacted their farming. Yet despite these struggles, Suppawit and Bua pushed forward until 1998 when another struggle appeared as Bua experienced some health issues. To recover, Bua traveled to Honolulu, Hawai‘i to be with her son. Amidst her time there she discovered the beauty of Hawai‘i and the true spirit of lei giving. The customs and traditions of Hawaiian lei lead Bua to create unique meaningful lei designs. So, the incorporation of 800 years of traditional Royal Thai lei and Hawaiian patterns blossomed together.

In 2003 The Orchid Lei Company by ECAN RMS USA was established in Hawai‘i with the mission of embracing the tradition of lei-giving culture by launching the new and transformed dendrobium orchid lei in both deluxe and signature premium lei. The goal has always been to create a great company and loyal customer base that focuses on delivering high-quality lei in every operational step. Now being the pioneer of creating the most unique and prestigious lei, The Orchid Lei Company has over 550 various styles of lei in many different colors and patterns. Its popularity continues to grow as lei are used from special occasions and award ceremonies to events with professional golfers and politicians. ECAN RMS USA currently has expanded with possession of over 400 acres of farmland in Thailand and three offices around the world in Hawai‘i, Japan, and California enabling a superior volume of high-quality orchid flowers in lei, lei po’o, and stem form. Our Kalihi warehouse ‘Ohana, which is home to a dedicated team of 20 employees, plays a vital role in this operation. Additionally, the company now has furthered their offerings by establishing partnerships with local suppliers for local lei, kukui nut lei, shell lei, and gift amenities. All of these offerings are available in the Hawaiian Islands, the Mainland U.S., and Asia.

Each lei is handcrafted using fresh flowers, and no two blossoms are exactly alike. We do our best to match the style and color palette shown, but slight differences in hue and tone may occur—adding to the unique beauty of each lei.
